Dog Food

A bag of Nature's HUG Junior dry food for toy and small breed puppies

Food for dogs across every format PAWMART carries: dry, wet, gently cooked fresh and frozen raw, for puppies, adults and senior dogs, stocked in Toronto and shipped across Canada.

Choosing by life stage

Puppies need food formulated for growth, and large-breed puppies need a formula that controls that growth rather than pushing it. Adult maintenance recipes suit most dogs. Senior formulas usually mean fewer calories and added joint support, which matters more for a dog that has slowed down than for one that has not.

Dry, wet, fresh or raw

Dry food is the easiest to store and portion. Wet food adds moisture and suits dogs that drink little or have lost interest in kibble. Gently cooked fresh food is the closest to home cooking without the guesswork on nutrients. Frozen raw appeals to owners who want a single-protein, minimally processed diet; it needs freezer space and clean handling. Many dogs do best on a mix, for example kibble with a topper or a portion of fresh food.

Switching food without an upset stomach

Change over seven to ten days, replacing a quarter of the old food at a time. Go slower for a dog with a sensitive stomach, and keep treats to the same protein while you switch.

Buying at PAWMART

Stocked at 1402 Yonge Street in Toronto and shipped across Canada, free on orders over $70, with free pickup in store. Compare fresh dog food and raw food, or ask staff in store about an allergy or a fussy eater.

Common questions

Grain-free or with grain? Most dogs digest grains well. Choose grain-free only for a diagnosed sensitivity, and talk to your vet if you plan to feed it long term.

How much should I feed? Start from the bag's chart for your dog's target weight, then adjust by body condition: you should feel ribs easily without seeing them.
